I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I started this blog. There was an abundance of learning curves and I quickly learned what to do and what not to do. Leading up to the rebrand, I did so much research on Pinterest and read so many blogs about doing this and that. However, nothing I read prepared me for actually using my blog and taking it seriously. I also had a big focus on social media. I wanted to grow my following as well as use it to promote my blog.
My Biggest Mistake
Something I regret to this day is not checking that Google Analytics was working properly when my website went live. I launched on January 25, 2017. But it wasn’t until January 27 when I logged into Google Analytics and found that my website wasn’t tracking links. Turns out I didn’t have Google Analytics active on SumoMe.
It sucked to find this out after I had my big launch because chances are that’s when people were looking at my blog the most. That’s 2 days that I missed out on.
Don’t be like me – make sure your analytics are always working!
Which leads me to my next point…
February Blog Traffic Report
In the month of February, I had 1149 page views. Of that number, 582 were unique page views. I try to put more importance on unique page views since Google logs when I look at my blog as well. Don’t know about you but I like to check my blog frequently to make sure everything looks good.
I had set a goal of reaching 1000 unique page views. Originally I had aimed for 500 but I decided to bump it up shortly after since my blog started gaining more traffic. I didn’t hit that 1k mark this month, but that’s what I’m aiming for for March.
In terms of growing traffic, I relied heavily on Pinterest group boards and Facebook groups. Groups like Grow Your Blog on Facebook helped me greatly, especially towards the end of the month. Click-through threads have been my friend (though they are very time consuming to complete). I’ve used Twitter and my personal Facebook to share my articles as well but I have found they don’t perform as well as reciprocal groups.
These were my top 3 posts:
- Monthly Cross Stitch Challenge – February
- DIY Valentine’s Day Gift: 52 Things I Like About You
- Cross Stitching: Tips For Beginners
Tip: My 52 Things I Like About You post was very popular on Pinterest thanks to Valentine’s Day. This became one of my top performing pins because of its good timing.
Social Media Check In
As I mentioned, I also wanted to grow my social media networks this month.
This is what I had wanted to achieve:
As I write this (March 2), here’s how I’ve progressed:
Facebook page – 35 likes (+4)
Pinterest – 138 followers (+107)
Twitter – 430 followers (+17)
Personal Instagram – 305 followers (+6, but this bumps up and down very frequently every time I post)
Craft Instagram – 220 followers (again, also bumps up and down frequently)
My Pinterest grew the quickest thanks to joining group boards as well as follow threads on Facebook groups. I’ve been working on my Instagram theme to make my feed more pretty. So far I’ve found less people have been unfollowing, but we’ll see how that goes throughout this month.
For March, I’ll be keeping the same goals as February since I only really achieved one of those above. For Pinterest, I’m aiming for 250 followers by the end of the month.
Another thing that changed since I started was my frequency of posting. I went from posting twice a week to just once. As mentioned in my last post, I’ve been on the go a lot more than usual so I had to make the adjustment. This way, I can focus more on making a good blog post, then spend the rest of the week promoting it and building more connections.
This month, I want to continue growing my traffic and social media. I also want to push a little bit harder with affiliate marketing and try to make some sales. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I’m excited to continue pushing forward with this blog!
What are your goals for March? Let me know in the comments.
