When I relaunched my blog, not only did I want to increase traffic but I also wanted to find ways that I could monetize my blog.
That’s when I discovered Michelle Schroeder-Gardner’s course Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
On her blog Making Sense of Cents, Michelle has made over $40,000 from one blog post alone. Now she earns roughly $50,000 from her blog monthly. By reading the modules, you can tell that Michelle loves what she does. It’s great that she’s now sharing her knowledge with the rest of us so now we can do like she does!
Seeing all of these stories of bloggers making thousands of dollars through their blogs had me skeptical. I’ll admit, I still am. That’s partly because I haven’t had any success with it yet. How do I know that this will work for me too? However, I decided to take a chance and purchase the course anyway.
Here are some of the things you’ll learn:
The in’s and out’s of affiliate marketing
As a new blogger, I knew what affiliate marketing was, but I didn’t know how it worked. Michelle goes in depth about affiliate marketing, what it is, how it works. She even goes into more detail to talk about how to build a relationship with your audience, because you need trust in order to make sales. Your audience likely won’t buy anything from you if they don’t trust your word.
Michelle also outlines several different strategies to promote your affiliates, such as blog posts (like this one you’re reading!), reviews, social media, and a resources page. The modules of the course take you through researching affiliate programs, creating content, and how to promote.
The course is also updated periodically. Michelle recently added a new module outlining several affiliate programs based on niche. I know I had some trouble finding programs so this new addition was helpful for sure.
The course provides free worksheets that you can fill out with ideas and notes. While taking the course, I didn’t take any notes but I found the worksheets very helpful. The first worksheet you get is a goal setting page where you fill out what you hope to accomplish in the course. You’re able to download and print them as you go. The sheets cover things like checklists to product trackers to make it easier for you to track your progress.
Access to a Facebook Group
Lastly, when signing up for the course you get access to an exclusive Facebook group. With just over a 1000 members, the group is fairly small. It’s based on community and everyone is welcome to ask questions and get feedback from others. There are daily threads for sharing (blog posts, social media, accomplishments, etc). Personally I haven’t been as active as I could be in the group but I do love reading others’ posts. The network is very welcoming. Even as a new blogger, I don’t feel like I have to be in competition with anyone else there.
This is the first e-course that I’ve purchased and I don’t regret spending the money. While I haven’t had any income from affiliate marketing (yet), I’ve noticed an increase in my traffic just by incorporating some of the promotion strategies for my blog posts.
If you’re looking to monetize your blog, whether you’re a new blogger or have been at it for years, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing is a great course to help point you in the right direction.
