2017 Black Diamond Mac and Cheese Festival (Photos)

2017 Mac and Cheese Festival

I attended the Black Diamond Mac and Cheese Festival this weekend at Ontario Place. It was the festival’s third year running, but this is the first year that I’ve been able to attend. Aside from the food, there was lots to see and do, including rides and a stage with live entertainment.

First up, there was the Doritos smash bag from Junked Food Co. Inside there was Doritos at the bottom of the bag (which you crush), lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese and Flaming Hot Cheetos. I’ve been to Junked Food Co. before but I’ve never had the smash bag until now. I want to go back just for another smash bag.

Probably my favourite thing that I had was the beer battered mac and cheese balls by Thistletown High School Chefs. They actually sold out very shortly after we ordered. I’m so happy it worked out in our favour. The Thistletown High School Chefs were named the Peoples Choice winners at the festival last year so you know they have to be good.

These babies are deep fried mac and cheese balls, with a beer batter; topped with a barbecue sauce, sour cream, shredded cheese and green onions. De-licious!

Some other dishes that I had but didn’t picture include a truffle mac and cheese, a bacon slider, and butter chicken mac.

To top it off, I got to try something that I always see every summer. Tropic Love makes smoothies inside a fruit (#drinkfromafruit). They had a watermelon smoothie and a pineapple smoothie. I went with the pineapple and I loved it.

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the pricing of the food tickets, you can’t go wrong with free admission. I left with a full belly, that’s for sure. Until next year!
